We are a public charity with a demonstrated history of delivering innovative and effective educational programs for children and youth that produce substantial and measurable results in Harrison County, West Virginia.

The organization has had tax exempt status, 501(c)(3), since 1993, but was inactive for several years. Originally named Harrison County Drug and Alcohol Council, Inc., in 2000 we agreed to sponsor a fundraiser which benefited needy children of Harrison County. In 2001, we received funds to jump start the organization, and in 2002, the Council changed its name to the Foundation for Children, Families, and Communities of West Virginia, Inc. to reflect the broader goals which have been embraced since that fundraiser.

Since 2003, we have received funds for community projects, including a community TV Studio in Harrison County. We have received funds on behalf of worthy organizations that lack the tax status to receive funds and have awarded West Virginia tax credits to donors. Our donor list includes: BB&T, Sacred Heart Children's Center, Clarksburg Harrison Cultural Foundation, Dominion, WV Junior College, Affiliated Physical Therapies, and Sutter Roofing, to name a few. We are able to invest funds in professionally managed accounts for maximum growth and community impact. We continue to seek funds for worthy youth and community programs.

Organization's Current Operating Budget
We have a strong infrastructure and a good operational strategy in place to secure funds and build our community. This organization does not anticipate and would not rely on the funds of any one organization as our predominate means of support. Facilities, grant writer services, supplies, operating overhead, and other costs are provided by our community partner, Harrison County (WV) Schools for the benefit of the Foundation. All funds go directly to the programs, there are no administrative charges. The Board Members serve for no remuneration and the Foundation employs no staff at this time.

Accounting Procedures
We maintain separate records for each grant to ensure that funds are used for the purpose for which the grant was made. Records are available for inspection during the life of the grant and for three years minimum thereafter. We will comply with any special record keeping rules that may apply.

Staff's Credentials
Our organization has dynamic leadership both at the management level and on the governing board. All work is volunteer. Our system for developing and evaluating programs, as well as the management and staff, keeps the organization viable and effective. We evaluate and learn from our progress and make improvements on an ongoing basis.
